The Only Choice that Matters

THE ONLY CHOICE
THAT MATTERS

“Jesus didn’t come to make bad people good or good people better; Jesus came to make dead people alive!” Lon Solomon

During this Easter season, conversations will abound about things that do not normally occupy the public discourse. People will be open to discussing values, ideas, feelings, and beliefs. In a time when cultures are warring, ideologies are clashing, and fear mixed with anxiety drives actions and identity, there is an opportunity to be present and deliver a message of hope to a broken and dying world.

Our experience shows an immense need to understand what really matters in this world. Culture tells people that they are the center of their story and that they carry the power to make their lives extraordinary. But how many people do you know living that kind of remarkable life? Everyone has their burdens and struggles. That seems to be a more frequent connection with the other passengers here on the good ship Earth.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said that Satan’s goal is to turn us in on ourselves to the point that we become a destructive force in community. Coincidentally, in a world that tries to convince us that we are the source of our own ultimate purpose, the levels of anxiety, despair, depression, and suicide have never been higher. It is why this Easter, the message of hope provided by Christ’s death and resurrection is so essential to share with anyone open to hearing it.

Self-actuated provision of purpose and salvation is the greatest lie permeating all societal levels. We are told we can be whatever we wish, do whatever we want, and become whatever we can dream of. It produces a world of people turned inward, focused on self; destructive forces in their communities, more invested in temporal happiness than any good. The truth is that the only real hope for a broken and weary world is the life found in Jesus Christ.

In John 11, Jesus tells us that He is “the resurrection and the life” and that those who believe in Him will never die. He never said that people will live their lives only better. He never preached a message of pulling ourselves up by our own bootstraps. He knew we were dead in our sin, destined for eternal death if we weren’t born again into life in Him. This Easter season, his resurrection and life is the #onechoice that will make a difference in people’s lives.

The entire purpose of Jesus’ life was to provide reconciliation to the Almighty God through his death and resurrection. The only hope for humanity to experience eternal life with the Father is through belief in Jesus Christ and what his sacrifice has accomplished for us. This Easter, I pray that if you do not know life in Him, you will make the only choice that really matters in this world. He is the only hope in a broken and dying world — and He is the resurrection and the life. Seek Him, find Him, and enjoy life in Him forever.
